Yellow Pages

Expanded OEHive White and Yellow Pages provide a single source for technical and non-technical persons in search for consultants, expertise and tools in the Progress OpenEdge community. These OEHive Yellow Pages provide an unusual feature: services and tools can be investigated under many different categories. This multi-faceted approach can be very helpful, particularly when the issues may be unclear.

Listings in the OEHive White and Yellow Pages are free.

Guidelines have been designed for the benefit of users of these Yellow Pages. Our objective is to make all entries consistent and easy to navigate.

WHITE PAGES

OEHive White Pages are an alphabetic listing of companies, persons and tools (products). Each White Page entry for Company or Person links to a main Yellow Page. Each White Page entry for a Tool links to a child Yellow Page.

YELLOW PAGE CATEGORIES

Each YP page is attached to Yellow Page Categories which are classifications about the type of expertise, service or tool. The hierarchical structure of the classification is the basis for the navigation structure on the YP list, see Yellow Page Categories as a good place to understand the intended structure. Clicking on the file folder icon will open or close the YP Category grouping, or list all YP entries under that YP Category.

When creating or editing the Yellow Page, use Control+Click in the Yellow Page Category section (elsewhere = Navigation) to attach categories. As the Yellow Page structure is hierarchical, some categories exist to provide groupings for other categories. These grouping categories should NOT be used. The top grouping categories display no hyphen, the next level display one hypen, then two and so on. Please do not attach to any term which contains other terms, always use a term that has no sub terms, e.g."Consulting-General" in place of "Consulting". Ask if none seem to quite fit. YP Moderator may reclassify YP listing at YP moderator’s discretion.

List only ONE company page (i.e. from Main or child) per Yellow Page Category. An exception to this rule might be multiple products or tools from the same company which provide some of the same functionality.

OEHive welcomes the addition of meaningful classifications. Send an email to yellowpages [at] oehive [dot] org with your suggestions. In addition, if you’re having trouble finding something, please let us know.

YELLOW PAGES RULES & GUIDELINES

A person on behalf of a Company, Person or Tool (Product) may request a main and several child yellow pages.

For the present, in order to establish consistency, the YP Moderator at OEHive will create the Yellow Pages. Contact the YP Moderator at yellowpages [at] oehive [dot] org. Once the pages have been created and classifications attached, the YP Moderator may turn ownership over to the Company or Person spotlighted by the pages for future maintenance. Please follow our guidelines. The YP Moderator retains the right to modify any YP listing so it meets these guidelines, at the YP Moderator’s discretion. If you’re not sure how something will fly, ask first. Thanks.

Main Yellow Page
This is the main page for the Company. The White Page entries and child pages also point to this page. This is the place for:

  • Everything about the company or person, including information about principals in the firm, years of experience, etc.
  • Contact information for the company or person.
  • Links to all child pages for the company.
  • Links to outside web pages.
  • The Company name or Person name becomes the Title of the main yellow page.
  • In the first part of the body of the main page (Opening Statement), provide a short description of the company’s or person’s unique appeal. This might be the opening statement from your website or your LinkedIn summary. This description should be less than 325 characters (including spaces).
  • A logo or image may be included in this Opening Statement. Maximum 30,000 pixels.
  • Following the Opening Statement, add a break, as follows: Edit Yellow Page. Below Body section is a hyperlink for "Input format". Open this section. Note that under "Filtered HTML" section are allowed HTML tags which include "< ! - - break - - >" (without quotes or spaces). Add this to the body of your page.
  • Note that all OEHive Yellow Page entries have the same initial display so as to provide a consistent presentation for users of these pages. In a listing of a Yellow Page category, entries display up to the break. When a person clicks on the title of a Yellow Page, s/he will see the full yellow page for that company.
  • Please include links to outside websites after break, i.e. not before break.
  • On main page, provide links to child pages, in this format " < a > href = "/node /9999">Title of Service or Tool < / a > " (without enclosing quotes or extra spaces).
  • There is no limit on size of Yellow Pages at this time.
  • Other images may be included after break. There is no limit on size of graphics files at this time.

Child Pages

  • The child page allows one to have text appropriate to specific classification(s) appear on the classification page(s). The purpose of the child page is not to merely to provide access to the same text as on the main page (classification of main page in multiple categories will accomplish this), but to provide an explanation about the particular services and expertise provided, or a description of the features provided by a tool.
    • For child pages for services, we recommend that the company name is included in the first part of the Title, i.e. "Company Name - Service Name"
    • For child pages for tools and software products, if the product name has a unique identity, we recommend that the name of the software product or tool becomes Title because the listings are alphabetic, i.e. "Tool Name - Company Name". If the company name has more cachet than the tool, then it should be listed first. We recommend that the company name be listed in every title.
    • In the first part of the body of the child page (Opening Statement), provide a short description of the company’s or person’s unique expertise or features of a specific product.
    • Please include links to outside websites after break, i.e. not before break.
    • Child pages provide links to main pages for all contact and company information. Links to the company’s main YP page should be in this format "< a href = "/node / 9999">Company Main Yellow Page < / a >" (without extra spaces) so we provide a consistent pattern to users.
