We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team at International Financial Data Services (IFDS) to support leading edge technology and solutions that the financial industry is built on and excel in supporting global industry leaders in mutual fund, banking and insurance industries.

The Senior Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. You will serve as a key contributor to the Core Technology team with responsibilities for overall production OpenEdge, MYSQL Oracle and MS SQL Server database administration and also responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

General Role
& Responsibilities:

Proactively monitor database management systems to prevent performance problems
Perform analysis and evaluate database performance to maximize efficiencies and take advantage of tuning opportunities
Work with and provide recommendations to application development teams to appropriately restructure data for maximum efficiency
Perform complex database maintenance such as, but not limited to, executing complex, corrective action database utilities, designing script structures, appropriately defining indexes, analyzing requirements, and designing database access paths to meet performance requirements
Interpret business and/or process requirements and create physical database designs of moderate complexity. This may include multiple components of a system and/or a collection of tables for an application
Research and participate in the implementation of new database features
Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of physical database design, troubleshoot and resolve complex, high-severity issues and mentor technical support staff

Competencies:

(Behavioral and Functional)
Experience in OpenEdge Database Products and Management Tools in a Linux Environment
Experience with Shell and Perl Scripting
Experience with messaging technologies including Websphere and SonicMQ
Experience operating in a Linux (Redhat), Windows and VMware environment.
Experience with Oracle, MYSQL and MS SQL Server administration
Ability to work independently and in small groups/teams
Ability to provide technical and process leadership to other team members
Ability to work in a multifaceted, high pressure environment under tight deadlines
Assistance in on-going Technology Improvement
